An interview with Victoria Collinson
What are the main challanges of ensuring a successful tour?
One of the major challenges is adapting to the different spaces and facilities. Schools are fortunate to be built with a school hall – ideal for performing in. Care homes, on the other hand, do not usually have such space, leaving only very small areas for performance and for our props and costumes. It is also impossible to be fully prepared for hospices where the numbers of people in the potential audience are constantly changing.
This must be hard.
Although this is challenging, children learn to be adaptable and think on their feet. They also learn the vital life skills of mixing and socialising with people less fortunate than themselves.
What are your plans for the future of the LCB2 Tour?
One of my aims is to identify new venues for our performances whilst still being able to return to venues which clearly value and look forward to our visits. Our dancers will be selected from the auditions for Ballet Shoes. With over 700 children auditioning there will be lots of talent to choose from.
